A β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) modified glassy carbon electrode, based on n-tetradecylamine (TDA) covalently modified glassy carbon electrode (TDA/GCE), was successfully fabricated (labeled as β-CD-TDA/GCE), which provides a novel approach to graft the β-CD on the solid substrate. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technology was used to characterize the β-CD-TDA/GCE and TDA/GCE, respectively. It was proposed that due to the hydrophobic interaction between β-CD and TDA, the inclusion complex could be formed with β-CD ring strung on the hydrocarbon chain of TDA covalently modified GCE. The supramolecular interaction between β-CD and uric acid (UA) improves the sensitivity and selectivity of the UA detection even in the presence of ascorbic scid (AA). By using the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), a linear response was obtained in the range of 4.0 × 10~(-6) to 5.0 × 10~(-5) M UA.
