IBD: Trying to optimize a tool to measure disability in IBD.

Disability is an important aspect of the indirect cost of any chronic disease. The WHO integrative model of human functioning and disability in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)-a hierarchical system that codes 1,400 categories into four levels of increasing specificity-provides a framework to assess disability in chronic disease. However, measurement of disability in patients with IBD has not been standardized. To address this issue, a consensus conference of multidisciplinary experts was convened with the aim of developing a novel IBD disability index.
