Half of adults with diabetes mellitus also have arthritis, and over half of patients with both conditions have reduced physical activity levels as a result of their arthritic symptoms, according to the findings of a new US study published in Diabetes Care. "Understanding the burden and impact of arthritis on adults with diabetes mellitus could help focus efforts to make reasonable intervention targets, advance policy and guidelines, as well as to deliver better health care," says Yiling Cheng, first author of the study.
