Fallowing back in the spotlight

Fallowing as a management practice is as old as agriculture itself. During the early days of broadacre agriculture in Western Australia it was used to store soil moisture for later crop production, to control weeds and to 'spell the ground'. More recently, continuous cropping has become more prevalent on many farms. But in the northern agricultural region of Western Australia, fallowing is back in vogue.
