Frost and heat can play havoc with flowering. WA scientists have rolled out a new model to help farmers reduce their risk of damage. Flowering date predictions are vital for reducing risk from frost and heat and water stress. A new improved model hasbeen developed to predict flowering dates of wheat in WA, with applications across the country. The aim of this project is to compare the new model with the existing flowering calculator (FC). The DM mode has been developed keeping in mind that wheat growing locations in WA differ not only for the mean temperature and day length but also for the extent of low temperatures and the rate at which heat and cold accumulate.
