Most organizations form communities of practice with the best intentions: to increase knowledge sharing across departments, drive innovation, and streamline business processes. But too often managers stifle knowledge sharing by imposing the organization's individualistic and competitive culture on the community. Here, Josh Plaskoff explains that if a community of practice is to succeed, it must be free to create its own culture within the organization.
