Mushroom Quest Pilot Continues

Chester County 4H continues to pilot the new 4H Mushroom Growing Project in partnership with the American Mushroom Institute (AMI) and Mushroom Farmers of Pennsylvania (MFPA). In October students completed activities of the curriculum at "After the Bell," a program held after the regular class day at Kennett Middle School. The 20-page curriculum includes lessons on the history and science behind mushroom farming, common varieties grown in the area, environmental impacts and other activities includingmushroom nutrition, math, art and geography. Other youth education/ promotional materials now published include a mushroom variety-coloring booklet as well as temporary tattoos of the "Mushroom Quest" characters. The tattoos were recently a big hit at the 2012 Mushroom Festival with both kids and adults! By Sunday afternoon we even had a few grown-ups Tweet about their tattoos, hash tag #mushroomcrew.
