China takes on finance and EPC role for Texas Clean Energy Project

The EPC contractor designate for the chemical and gasification block of the Texas Clean Energy Project - a planned PRB coal fuelled 400 MW (gross) IGCC power/polygeneration facility with carbon capture - is no longer SK E&C of Korea but Sinopec Engineering Group of China. A memorandum of understanding signed in September by project developer Summit, Sinopec and the Export-Import Bank of China (Chexim) includes a new EPC contract for the chemical and gasification block, which Summit "intends to award to the Sinopec Engineering Group". SEG is the newly consolidated engineering subsidiary of Sinopec Group, with extensive experience in the design and engineering of coal conversion projects and other major oil, gas, and chemical plants in more than 50 countries, Summit notes.
