China/UK Nuclear power China has issued what appears to be a thinly veiled threat in connection with the future of Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the form of a warning from Liu Xiaoming, China's ambassador to the UK, that bilateral ties stand at a 'crucial historical juncture'. Writing in the Financial Times, Liu Xiaoming linked together Beijing's wish to see an early go-ahead for the controversial Hinkley Point project and the future of the UK-China relationship. "Right now, the China-UK relationship is at a crucial historical juncture ... I hope the UK will keep its door open to China" he wrote. He hoped the British government would "continue to support Hinkley Point - and come to a decision as soon as possible so that the project can proceed smoothly."
