Cullet gets green light as paving sand

With the introduction of the aggregates tax on virgin materials moving ever closer, Day Aggregates began research last year to develop sand from crushed glass, or cullet, from recycled glass bottles.After trials in the spring and satisfactory testing to BS 7533 category III for paving sand, the first consignment of green (both in colour and the environmental sense) glass sand left the company's Greenwich processing plant in September.
