Reviewed by Jayne Marshall With the transfer of nursing and midwifery education to universities, the increased academic content of the curricula and the increasing complexities involved in 21st century maternity care across the world, there is concern that students are less ably prepared for clinical practice at the point of registration.The first study, undertaken at the University of Limerick, Ireland, explored a total of 26 student midwives' experiences of undertaking Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) as a means of developing skills in managing emergencies in maternity care. However, it is not specified when the research was actually carried out in order to know how contemporary the findings are. The Abstract would have been much clearer had it been structured under headings; however, overall it does provide a satisfactory overview of the study.
