In this Editorial we want to acknowledge the excellent work of Hazel and Suzanne, who have been Editors-in-Chief of this Journal for just short of a decade. We have greatly enjoyed working with them during this time and have learnt so much along the way. It is with a huge amount of trepidation (and not a little panic) that our new team takes over the reins—with Sara and Jose moving from their Associate Editor roles to become Editors-in-Chief, and Beverley Clough becoming Associate Editor responsible for book reviews and Rob Heywood the Associate Editor for case commentaries. When beginning to look at the contribution that Hazel and Suzanne have made to the Journal, the natural starting place is to look at the content published under their stewardship. On undertaking this task, several features became apparent to us. First, although the Commentaries and Book Review sections have long been places where early career researchers can publish their first pieces, we were struck by the number of articles that were authored by those at an early stage of their career. These include many colleagues who are now established in the field but who announced themselves by publishing articles in the Medical Law Review. Indeed, the new Editors-in Chiefs' first published article was a co-authored piece in this Journal. We remember well the excitement (and astonishment) of receiving the email confirming acceptance of our paper from Andrew Grubb and Ian Kennedy. We also remember the careful way they guided and supported us through the amendment and publication process. This especial care and attention afforded to scholars starting out is critically important and was undoubtedly continued through subsequent Editors-in-Chief. We are wholeheartedly committed to this ethos.
