Severn Estuary dredging

Procedures for consideration of dredging applications in the Severn Estuary were noted by Gloucestershire CC in May. A significant part of the Severn Estuary falls within the administrative control of the County Council, upstream of the mouth of the River Wye at Sedbury, within areas that are contiguous with the foreshore extending to the line of mean low water. As MPA it would have responsibility for the determination of any proposals for minerals development which might be submitted in this area. Pre-application discussion has taken place with regards to possible proposals for dredging in the estuary. However, the Minerals Local Plan is not explicit in providing a policy framework for these issues. Accordingly a policy approach for the consideration of any dredging proposal was recommended.
