WORLD gold jewellery consumption reached a record high in the six months to June 30,2005, according to the World Gold Council's (WGC's) latest figures. Demand for gold jewellery surged to 1,4111, up 16.6 percent on the June half last year. According to the WGC, the June quarter was the sixth consecutive quarter of positive year-on-year growth and the third consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. The statistics, compiled independently by GFMS Ltd for the producer-funded WGC, show that, in the June quarter, gold demand grew 14 percent in tonnage terms and 24 percent in value terms compared with the corresponding period for 2004.
