摘要

According to the most recent study from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Britain is still the sixth richest country in the world, though one could be forgiven for doubting this looking at the state of our roads, the quantity of unpicked litter in the hedgerows and the general shabby state of our services. Reading a little further down the report, I see the OECD doubts that Britain can maintain its position in the world because, shamefully, our infrastructure is rated 34th, below Namibia and Spain, This is not only shameful but worrying for, as the OECD points out, transport, utilities and communications represent the very best value in terms of government spending because they are direct drivers of growth.
