I read the letter written by Luigina Graziosi. I totally agree with the opinion that the presence of intraperitoneal free cancer cells (IFCCs) may play a significant role in the peritoneal recurrence and be a negative prognostic factor for post-surgical recurrences in advanced gastric cancer. A recent Korean study demonstrated that median overall survival of patients with positive peritoneal washing cytology (C1) but without gross peritoneal seeding (P0) was better than that of patients with peritoneal metastasis (PI) and negative cytology (CO) and those with PI Cl (20.0, 14.0, and 10.0 months respectively).
