Commercial vehicles: Van and truck sales buoyant in 2011

Both truck and light CV registrations showed buoyant growth in 2011, continuing the recovery that started in 2010 for trucks and 2009 for light CVs. According to registrations statistics from the SMMT, all commercial vehicle registrations rose by 17.8 per cent to 303,097. As expected, light CVs, under 3,500kg gross vehicle weight were responsible for the bulk of the figures, with registrations rising 16.7 per cent during the year to 260,153. Trucks enjoyed the first complete year of growth since the financial crisis of 2008, with registrations rising 24.6 per cent to 42,944.
