摘要

Sometimes a person feels like Trevye in the "Fiddler on the Roof." Now is one of those times for me as I try to maintain a balance. Or maybe a little like Don Quixote. All this is brought about by Doris Schwartzberg's recent letter to you. Doris and her husband Fred are longtime friends of mine. They would like to change the words of The Mining Engineer as noted in Fred's previous letter to you. I have suggested that if the words are truly hurting someone, those words could be dropped. I did object to the substitute words that Doris wrote. So, Doris responded in her letter which flattered me in about the same fashion as if I were her political opponent. I am beginning to wonder if the song is going to be torn apart until the complete song will be: "I wish. Hail, hail." Shouldn't bother many then. No more sugar, no more rum, no more whiskey, no more wrecks, no more honesty, no more daughters, no more sons, no more colored dresses and no more hells. But I will still sing the original. At least, call it singing.
