摘要

Febrile seizures (FS) are the most frequent type of seizures in children less than 5 years old visiting the emergency departments. They are defined as seizures occuring in children aged from 6 months to 5 years in a context of fever, without a concurrent central nervous system infection. FS are usually classified as simple or complex. However the criteria used in this classification do not help the physicians in the decision to perform a lumbar puncture, and to prescribe a "rescue" benzodiazepine or a continuous antiepileptic drug therapy. Other clinical factors have been showed to be associated with an increase risk of bacterial meningitis, FS recurrence and susequent epilepsy. Using two clinical cases of complex FS, we propose a management approach and to review the epileptic syndromes occurring at the outbreak of FS in young infants.
