Perth gathering to debate effects of the boom

THE AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) is looking to attract more than 200 delegates to its 30th national symposium to be held in Perth. With the theme "Resources Boom: Opportunities & Consequences", the two-day event has assembled an outstanding line-up of speakers from the industry. Sponsored by Rio Tinto Ltd, Curtin University of Technology, the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Australia, Woodside Petroleum Ltd, Alcoa Incorporated and the University of Newcastle, the symposium will examine -from both Australian and international perspectives -the upside and downside of the resources boom in Australia. It will feature speakers from China, Europe and Japan and representatives of the major mining houses that are enmeshed in managing the boom and its impact on the culture, economy and social structure of Australia.
