After some years in the pipeline, development of the Magellan lead deposit in Western Australia's Gascoyne-Murchison finally got under way in September 2005 following the commissioning of the project by Canadian company Ivernia Incorporated. The operation, which sits some 40 kilometres west of Wiluna, is significant for a number of reasons, the main one perhaps being its ability to turn WA into one of the world's top five producers of the base metal.
