Pilbara undergoing rail evolution

A 400 MILLION US dollars investment by GE - Transportation in eco friendly locomotive technology will soon be paying off for Rio Tinto Ltd at its Pilbara iron ore sites. The global mining giant recently took delivery of the first 10 of 40 Evolution~R Series locomotives to support its Pilbara iron ore output expansion to 220 million tonnes per annum. The locomotives, weighing 196t, are tipped to cut carbon emissions by 40 percent and increase fuel efficiencies by 5 percent.
