It has been said, perhaps in a better form of I words, that drawing conclusions about China is something like the blind men who were shown an elephant. One could feel the breeze as its large ears flapped and remarked: "I think that this is a giant fan - I can feel the cool air as it waves back and forward". The next blind man said, as he held its trunk: "No, it's a very thick rope". Meanwhile the third remarked that it was obviously a large building because he could "feel the four posts" as he touched each leg. So be warned -- this view of China from a head hunter who has had several years' experience in China -- and who has called it home for the past year -- may be no more accurate than the blind men trying to understand the elephant. At whatever conference mining/metals people gather, China seems to be a central theme as many of the fraternity talk up their project or seek to find the next big opportunity.
