摘要

The effect of normal load on fretting wear of the dimple-gimbal interface in a hard disk drive suspension is investigated experimentally. The wear volume, the wear coefficient and the friction loop are studied as a function of the number of fretting wear cycles. The wear volume of the dimple is calculated based on wear scar measurements using a scanning electron microscope. The wear coefficient is calculated using Archard's wear equation. It is found that the wear coefficient decreases with an increase in the number of fretting wear cycles. The wear volume calculation is validated theoretically.
