HOT ROLLING The latest version of the strip cooling model from the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group also includes precise calculation and control of the phase transitions when hot-rolled steel is cooled. Multiphase and special deep-drawing steels can now be produced efficiently and reliably. The calculation is based on a thermodynamic description of the cooling process, which also takes account of the heat generated during the phase transitions. As part of a closed-loop cooling control, the strip cooling model calculates the complete temperature distribution as well as the phase proportions of austenite, ferrite and perlite along the whole strip in real time.
