The plant has a strand guide (1) whose end portion is provided with a device (10) for measuring the thickness of a cast metal strip (2). The strand guide is provided with a calculation unit (12) for modeling the temperature field, the solidification of the strip and the desired setting forces of rollers (6) of strand guide based on the calculated maximum load capacities. The force of rollers is adjusted to achieve desired final thickness of strand. An independent claim is included for method for guiding strand.
