Cooling conveyor with patented cooling process for iron briquettes

Matesi, Mate-riales Siderurgicos S.A., producer of high-quality Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI), and part of Sidor, the largest Venezuelan steel producer, awarded Aumund Forder-technik the order for the supply of a new cooling path. The main component is a cooling conveyor of almost 70 m length and 2.4 m width. The material is fed onto it by four short metallic plate conveyors in heavy duty design. Each of them is located underneath a briquetting machine. This modernization measure will enable the plant to replace the previously existing vibratory feeders which did not reach the necessary cooling capacity. Delivery and commissioning is scheduled to take place in 2006. The new cooling conveyor system with vaporised water inerting cools the material during transport, whereas traditional systems merely quench the material in a water bath. In the newly patented cooling process, nozzles inject water as a fine spray onto the hot material.
