Located on a rolling, wooded site in Fort Belvoir, Va., the National Geospatial-lntelligence Agency (NGA) is the nation's primary source of geospa-tial intelligence for the Department of Defense. As part of the November 9, 2005 Base Realignment and Closure legislation, NGA elected to design and build a purpose-built facility to consolidate their far-flung professional staff, advance their mission, provide the flexibility needed for a changing, tech-intense workforce, and create an exemplar project for sustainable design and construction within the public sector. The $1.4 billion, 2.4 million-square-foot NGA/Campus East Facility (NCE) consolidates six Washington-area sites and accommodates 8,500 professionals in a modern, technology-rich workplace.
