About the project: As it had experience with other Native American tribes, the Mescalero Apache Tribal Council selected The Worth Group to be a part of the design-build team for a new hotel/casino. One of the tribe's requirements was the building had to be low profile in terms of height. Although the facility is only three stories high, according to the designer, it was able to gain eight stories by pushing the envelope of the buildings down the hillside and out towards the lake. The resort has 250 standard and deluxe guest rooms, 26 suites, 50,000 sq. ft. of gaming space, 36,000 sq. ft. of convention space and 25,000 sq. ft. of spa facilities with an indoor-outdoor pool. It also has four restaurants and ample on-site parking. It was important to the tribe to keep the same setting as its existing casino. The design concept allowed that facility to remain open while the new one was being built.
