A device at a ship's deck (1) for shifting cargo goods (15) across the longitudinal direction of the ship, where one or more actuators (5, 5') are arranged along the two opposite s sides (3) of the ship's deck (1) and provided with connecting points (7) and guide rollers (11) for pulling wires (13). A method of guiding a wire rope (19) when reeling this onto the winch drum (21) of a ship, by a removable guide (17) enclosing the cross section of the wire rope (19) and being connected to two actuators (5, 5') by means of two pulling wires (13), where the actuators (5) are first operated separately until the pulling wires (13) have been tightened, and then operated cooperatively in a way such that the guide (17) places the wire rope (19) in the correct position for running onto the winch drum (21).
