All at once, the absolute quiet of the desert was broken as the throbbing sound of a distant motor became audible. We both stopped to listen. It was coming nearer, but we could not make out if it was a truck, a plane, or what. And then, as it became clearer, we realised that it was the combined noise of a truck with the throbbing overtones of a helicopter fast approaching us. A black dot in the distance rapidly grew into a little blue helicopter which flew over us. Like a dragonfly, it alighted daintily on the ground some 25 yards from where we stood, with excitement bubbling up inside us. It was REALLY coming true! We had not just dreamt the whole thing! Joe, our guide, climbed out and ran over to us, and told us above the noise of the engine thathe and John, the pilot, would fly over the campsite at the foot of the Hungorob Schlucht, then go up, taking a look at some landmarks along the way, and land on the top at the locality which we had previously decided on. While Joe looked around, John would return to the campsite to pick us up and airlift us up the mountain.
