VII CONGRESS OF STEELMAKERS: THE CURRENT STATE OF RESEARCH AND STEEL PRODUCTION

On October 15-17, 2002, the VII Congress of Steelmakers convened at the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine to examine the state of steelmaking in Russia and the nations of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), the competitiveness of their metal products, and the prospects for a fundamental restructuring of the industry based on modern steelmaking equipment (steelmaking furnaces and units for treatment of steel outside the furnace) and the use of continuous casting. The durability of the refractories used in steelmaking was also a subject of discussion. The most important of these topics were taken up in different workshops. Here, we present information prepared by the section leaders on the work that was done.
