The aim of this study was to determine the localization of oestrogen receptors alpha in the parahippocampal gyrus (gyrus parahippocampalis) following 17 beta -estradiol application in ovariectomized rabbits. Studies were carried out using an immunocytochemical method. Oestrogen receptors alpha immunoreactivity in neurons and astrocytes was detected in the cellular layers of the parasubiculum, perisubiculum and entorhinalis regions. However, ER alpha immunoreactivity was undetected in astrocytes of ovariectomized rabbits in the experimental group where there was no estradiol (E2) application. On the other hand, the neurons showed a very weak pigmentation. The results obtained indicated that the structure of rabbit parahippocampal gyrus was under the influence of oestrogen, which caused an increase in ER alpha expression..
