Dunal (Family: Solanaceae; commonly known as Ashwagandha; English name, winter cherry) is a perennial plant species with profound therapeutic significance in both traditional (Ayurvedic, Unani, Sidhdha) and modern systems of medicine. Due to the restorative property of roots, the species is also known as 'Indian ginseng'. With a view to the medicinal importance of the species an overview is conducted involving nearly all essential aspects to provide updated, adequate information to researchers for effective utilization in human benefit.
