Editor - In his letter in response to our article, Azer suggests that we have ignored the issue of selection of local and international students for admission to medical schools. He argues that, as the international students were selected using different criteria to local students (i.e. they allegedly were not selected on the basis of a standardised aptitude test and standardised interviews), the validity of our comparisons between the cohorts of students and the strength of our conclusions are somehow decreased.
