From Ancient Roots to Modern Applications: The AAMA's 27th Annual Symposium

The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture's (AAMA) 27th Annual Symposium (Medical Acupuncture. Ancient Roots. Modern Applications) was a spectacular event. It was more than a collection of learned people listening to lectures and enjoying the camaraderie of the occasion. Each lecture or workshop pushed further to help attendees understand acupuncture and other Asian practices. We must realize that there are uncertainties involved in other medical systems that may appear to be impossible to solve only because of our current ignorance. Hard work and scientific investigation will eventually lead us to solutions; perhaps not as soon as desired but in due course. Biologic systems are very complex. Our understanding changed with our developing technology. The microscope completely redefined our interaction with our environment and knowledge of how life forms from bacteria and fungi affected human life and our ability to eradicate disease. Later, as our technology improved, we learned about other life forms that were even more invisible-viruses. So, in a cartwheel fashion, our understanding of life increases every day, adding to our knowledge and promoting even more questions regarding life's puzzles.
