Context and setting A cohort (14-16 students) of Year 3 Monash University medical students spend a year ofclinical training at the Gippsland Regional Clinical School (Traralgon, Victoria). Locally, a two-part programme in applied pharmacology and therapeutics has been developed. This includes discussion tutorials with a clinical pharmacist and sessions with one of the clinical pharmacists in the hospital wards. The aims of this programme are to increase students' knowledge of both applied pharmacology and therapeutics, and increase their understanding of the contribution made by pharmacists to the health care team.
