ALL STARTED WITH THE SIMPLE ACT OF PICKING RUBBISH UP FROM THE STREETS OF his home town but somehow grew to create a much-lauded icon of waste. Robin Kevan is a retired social worker from Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys. The sudden celebrity that doing something he felt should come naturally to everybody seemed to bewilder 'Rob the Rubbish', as he affectionately became known. He had not sought recognition but had merely found a problem and decided to tackle it himself after retiring in 2004. "I love walking and it was while out in the beautiful countryside near my home that I started to notice litter in a big way," says the 63-year-old. "It seemed to be everywhere and it began to have an impact on my enjoyment of living in one of the nicest parts of Britain. After grumbling about it for a while, I realised that the council could do only so much, so I decided to act myself."
