摘要

During the past 24 months, the leadership of Mayo Clinic Proceedings has conducted extensive research-using surveys, focus groups, reviews of industry standards, consultation with experts, and a host of other techniques梩o evaluate the reading patterns, content needs, and access preferences of those we serve. Through this research, several themes have recurred: Modern physicians feel increasingly pressured for time and often feel unable to explore the literature as much as they would like. Physicians prefer journal content that addresses their practice needs, the interests of their patients, and broader medical and public health issues. Journal content should provide clearly written and displayed information, and it should be readily accessible in the reader's preferred format, whether print or electronic. Finally, if journals can provide continuing medical education (CME) credit, so much the better.
