Dash-for-Gas leader converts to biomass

OH THE DELICIOUS irony. The CCGT that was at the forefront of the Dash-for-Gas in the early-1990s is to be converted to biomass-firing. Firstly it was a 120MW coal-fired power station, brought into service in 1954 and de-commissioned in 1988. Then the site was acquired from scrap merchants by former power industry executives and became the UK's first CCGT. Now Centrica, the present owners of the Roosecote power plant at Barrow-in-Fumace, plans to build an 80MW biomass fuelled power station there. The 224MW CCGT owned by Lakeland Power was hailed in 1990 as the first UK independent power project to be awarded a generation licence under the Electricity Act of 19 8 9.
