Jostling for position over central Queensland's strained rail and port infrastructure has jangled more than a few nerves following the quiet move by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) to stake out rail capacity between its mines and its Hay Point coal loader, following its decision a few weeks back to lift capacity at the loader. BMA has launched a 230m Australia dollars (177m dollars), 4mt/yr capacity increase at its coal loader, taking it to 44mt, the expansion due operational by Q1 2007. It has also begun assessing a further two-stage expansion of the loader to 55-57mt.
