Cape rates rise in Asian dry-bulk market

CAPESIZE VESSEL rates rose in the Asian dry-bulk markets this week but a lack of cargoes put pressure on panamax rates. In total, 125 dry bulk vessels were chartered in the spot market last week, 11 less than the previous week. South American grain fixtures dropped to 22 last week, 13 less than the previous week. There were 17 Australian iron ore fixtures, four less than in the previous week. IHS Fairplay confirmed that the ixtures were for the shipment of iron ore to various buyers in Asia. There was, however, an increase in coal fixtures with 13 entering the market from Australia, one more than the previous week.
