Indians push discounts on US, NZ suppliers

INDIAN state-controlled steel makers, SAIL and RINL (Vizag) are understood to have continued their hardball tactics with US contract suppliers, insisting on deep discounts from July-September quarter (Q3) prices agreed with Australian suppliers, based on a $225/t FOB benchmark.The Indians are also pushing for discounts onto their sole New Zealand hard coking supplier, state-controlled Solid Energy.The Indian resolve has been stiffened by a strong US response to the recent 0.5mt SAIL tender which saw FOB bids of Sl84/t from Xcoal and $169/t from Integra (see separate story).
