EU beef and sheep meat consumption to decline

Despite projections by the European Commission's Directorate General of Agriculture (DG Agri) that overall meat consumption in the EU will increase through to 2014, it expects beef and sheep meat consumption will decline. By 2014, EU meat consumptionwill reach 87.2 kg per capita from 84.5 kg per capita in 2006, yet beef and veal consumption is expected to fall by 3.5%. Sheep and goat meat consumption is forecasted to drop from 1.399 million tonnes in 2005 to 1.314 million tones by 2013.
