Keeping up with Kyoto

'How to link OSHA requirements to Kyoto's demands for protection of climate?' was discussed by Rolf Kurtsiefer of KMA GmbH, Germany. The author said that ever since the idea of the 'white foundry' was born, managers focussed much of their environmental activities on meeting the OSHA requirements for occupational health. A look into a modern foundry shows impressive improvements of air quality inside the shop. Nevertheless, foundry activities for fume removal often could not solve the problem of working in accordance with the aims of sustainability, with increasing exhaust air rates in modern foundries causing an equivalent increase of energy-wasting make-up air, and hence thwart Kyoto's aims for climate protection.
