Valencia - The branches of the German discounters had been warned. The farmers' associations AVA/ASAJA and LA UNIO-COAG and the co-operative associations FECOAV - FEPAC had announced in the media that they were sick and tired of the discounters usingSpanish citrus fruits as bait and selling them for less than cost price. This unfair trade practice had been going on for three years, they said. They had nothing against programmed temporary sales activities agreed on by the export companies and the discount companies, but they refused to accept the practice whereby totally insufficient ultra-low prices scheduled long before the citrus season started left virtually nothing for the producers. As none of the warnings had been of any use, the farmers' associations continued, they would now carry out a pre-prepared plan of action starting in early December with a demonstration outside a retail outlet. Where it would be and which company it would be directed against remained a closely guarded secret.
