Computers are humming, employees are working in groups, a meeting is being held in the conference room on the first floor of an office building in Ladislawa Avenue in Davao: quite a normal day at work in the headquarters of Nader & Ebrahim Philippines(NEH) in the southeast of the island of Mindanao. Suddenly there is darkness, the alarm of data stations is echoing through the open-plan office. Air-conditioning has broken down, the humid heat of a normal sum-merdaythis close to the equator is creeping into the building. The reason is brown-out, the Philippine version of blackout or power cut.
