Anwar Abdullah knows how to advertise products. "Nowhere else do such large pomegranates grow as they do here," says the Kurd confidently. "They are sweet and tart and very juicy and their taste is exceptional!" It's thanks to the fertile oil and thelarge amounts of available water that you can grow just about anything in the northeast of Iraq. Anwar gets all dreamy when he speaks of the future of farming in his area. Jumbo pomegranates "made in Iraq-Kurdistan" are to be exported to the Gulf state of Dubai for the first time in August - the first ever agricultural exports for almost two decades. At first, the Kurds only want to send the dark red fruits to the Emirate on the Gulf, with grapes and other varieties of fruit following later. "And in late autumn, we ship honey from wild blossoms - a unique product of this region."
