Medfly-free zones: Projects for extending cherry production

The cherry exports from Argentina in 2012 went up by 10%. For the next season producers and exporters are aiming for another increase to markets like the USA due to USDA/APHIS recognition for Mendoza as a medfly-free zone. The main production area islocated in the province of Mendoza in the Midwest of Argentina; other areas are in the provinces of Rio Negro, Neuquén, Chubut and Santa Cruz in Patagonia as well as in Entre Ríos and the province of Buenos Aires.
