Investing in year round cucumber production

Dick De Jong in Dongen, was the first person the Netherlands to invest heavily in the year round production of cucumbers. He extended his company by 2.5 ha and adjusted the existing greenhouse. In October last year he filled his new greenhouse with plants and aims to keep it 'green' for the whole year. "If you put everything together, this is the best investment for the future." It is dark and cold in the first greenhouse, directly behind the barn of cucumber company Klein Ambacht of Dick De Jong inDongen, die Netherlands. The heating pipes are hanging on the greenhouse support struts. The bends have been removed, because the width of the pipe rail is been enlarged to 55 cm.
